Information

The coastal canal is the connection between the Weser and Ems rivers and is a Class IV federal waterway with a length of 69.56 km and a water depth of 3.50m. Discharge depth from km 1.71 (Oldenburg lock) to km 64.0 (Dörpen) is max. 2.70m depending on the size of the ship - clearance height at normal water level is 4.50m. The zHG is 10km/h or 8km/h, depending on the unloading depth. The canal has two locks, one in Oldenburg and one in Dörpen. The drop height at the Oldenburg lock is up to 5.40 m towards the Hunte, depending on the tide level, and 1.20 m at the Dörpen lock towards the DEK (Ems). The canal is spanned by 2 railroad bridges, 28 road and path bridges and 1 pedestrian bridge, as well as 2 safety gates. Operating hours Oldenburg lock: VHF channel 20 01.01.-31.12.
